Understanding Psoriasis in a Kind and Simple Way

Welcome, Young Skin Scientists!

This website is here to help 4th and 5th grade students learn about psoriasis in a way that is clear, friendly, and kind.

Psoriasis is a skin condition that can make skin look red, dry, or flaky. It is a health condition, not something someone can control by just "trying harder."

Important reminder: psoriasis is not contagious.

Project Vision

The vision of this project is to create a community where all students understand that differences in appearance are normal and should be respected.

This project aims to:

  • Teach elementary students that psoriasis is NOT contagious
  • Reduce misunderstandings about skin conditions
  • Encourage kindness and empathy in classrooms
  • Help students feel more confident and included
  • Provide teachers with easy-to-use educational materials

In the future, this project can grow beyond one school and be shared with more classrooms and schools to promote awareness and acceptance.

What Is Psoriasis?

1. It Is a Skin Condition

Psoriasis is a condition where skin cells build up too quickly. This can make patches of skin that look different from the skin around them.

2. The Immune System Works Too Fast

Our immune system protects us. In psoriasis, it can send signals too fast, causing new skin cells to grow before old cells are ready to leave.

3. It Is Nobody's Fault

A person does not get psoriasis because they did something wrong. It is not caused by being dirty, and it is never okay to blame someone for it.
